Long time, no post….I missed you, Chic n’ Geek! Such are the hazards of blogging for fun while also spending all day, every workday doing web/social media stuff…your enthusiasm for the hobby of blogging tends to wane when it feels like you’re just doing more work. Also, ADHD doesn’t exactly help either…but I digress. I have missed blogging over here so am trying to make time to share fun stuff and not just social media stuff.
So what’s new with me? Well, thank god winter is finally over–that winter was a total cluster F and took WAY too long to leave. My local library–located within walking distance of my house–had been closed for renovations for over three years and recently re-opened–pretty much the biggest news in my life, because my life is that exciting. As a result, I’ve been gorging on books–CD books in my car, books I’ve been waiting to read (I highly recommend The Circle and the Fay Weldon Love & Inheritance Trilogy, the last book of which I’m reading right now), and books I never would have known about or read if I hadn’t happened to see them on the shelf–like The Best American Comics of 2012–now I’m obsessed with comics. Movies–nothing great out lately. Do yourself a favor and do NOT see Oculus–it was terrible. My daughter is getting ready to graduate from high school, a fact about which I’m staying firmly in denial for now, even amidst shopping for graduation and prom dresses and going to accepted student day at Towson University.
Life in the big city, right?
And don’t forget it’s almost tax day. Lucky for me, Patrick is totally anal and not a chronic procrastinator like I am, so we did our taxes a month ago. Thanks to me not paying quarterly estimated tax on my freelance business, we barely scraped by without having to pay this year, so the usual post-tax refund house project enthusiasm isn’t happening this year, sadly. However, the white carpet in the living room and office is so old and gross that it literally crunches when you walk across it and the huge cat pee stain that our late cat, Sadie, left seems to just grow bigger and darker every week even though she’s been gone for a year and a half. The rest of the first floor of our house is hardwood, and back when we thought we’d be getting a big tax refund, we talked about putting hardwood in those two rooms as well. But I hate the disruption of big, messy house renovations and the thought of that dust everywhere just wasn’t appealing to me, so I suggested we just replace the carpet instead–cheaper and easier and way less messy. A neutral color, of course, and something that won’t be a total disaster, stain-wise, like the white carpet is. For instance, I casually suggested to Patrick, leopard carpet.
We all know about my obsession with Pinterest, which led to my latest obsession: leopard carpet. Somehow, Patrick is not sharing this obsession and doesn’t get that leopard is a neutral and would be an awesome choice. Especially since there are already about 100 patterns in the living room, plus another 100 things hung on the walls of the two rooms. To him, that many patterns spells seizure; to me, it spells perfection. I’ve been frantically pinning pictures to support my cause, so keep your fingers crossed that he relents and says yes to leopard carpet.
